When you drive, you need to give the road your undivided attention. Traffic is always changing, there may be debris that fell into the road, or animals or children may jump out from nowhere. But if you are continually scanning the road and you are paying attention, then you will most likely catch anything that would otherwise catch you off guard. Check your mirrors every six to eight seconds, and never drive while any of your senses are compromised.
You should never get behind the wheel intoxicated or under any type of drug influence. Don't use your phone or let your passengers distract you while you are behind the wheel. You should also obey the speed limit and road signs at all times. You should also leave yourself enough time to get to where you're going -- you never want to drive rushed. That's a big no-no. Always take your time and be alert.
